NANO BREWERIES ARE THE BEST! Ookapow Brewing Company in West Palm Beach, Florida is exactly what we look for when we go out. Good craft beer - check, small friendly shop - check, and a casual chat with the brewer - CHECK! We can get so many good beers at TotalWine so why go out? I'll tell you why - because you can't get the nano-brewery experience sitting on your coach. We've said over and over, all craft breweries make good beer otherwise they would go out of business. Some have great beer, but the experience and atmosphere is more than 50% of the reason to get off the coach and visit a craft brewery. If all you do is bring a cold glass of good beer to my table, I might as well go to a restaurant or grab a six pack and head down to the beach to watch the sunset. Put me on a stool with a delicious pint overlooking a room full of stainless steel fermentors, hoses, pallets and bubbling air chambers and it can rival a sunset. Fill the room with craft beer enthusiasts and you've got an opportunity to really enjoy a good time. The universe even intersected our good time with a chance meeting with two friends we haven't seen in a long time. And then there was beer to try. See what I mean? Get off the coach! We ordered up a flight to sample everything they had on tap. Ooka IPA(6.0% ABV), Cream Ale(5% ABV), SquareD Double IPA(8% ABV), Wee Heavy Scotch Ale(8.5% ABV), Burbon Barrel Aged Belgian Quad(13% ABV), Bananas Foster Cream Ale(5% ABV), and Saison(9.8% ABV). Unfortunately our two friends had just drained the keg of the last glass of the Apricot Blonde(5% ABV). We'll be back to try that for sure. They were all yummy craft brews and the first $6 flight was gone in a flash.

We ordered up a pint of the stout and enjoyed a conversation with the brewer and co-owner, Damian Ramos. In November 2017, Damian and Jeff Singletary of Celtic Brewing Company, launched their dream of opening a brewery together. They have been home brewing for 20 years and all that experience is now flowing through a 1 barrel system for us to enjoy. Opening on saturdays at noon, they brew right in front of you. You get to enjoy all those smells, the mashing and boiling, hopping and sparging, all while you sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor. They hold tight to their homebrew roots and are quick to offer advice to any homebrewer. They hope to inspire a homebrew community in the area bringing out the crowds on homebrew day. Watch their website for dates. Nanos are the best. We talked with Damian about his love for brewing and admiration for other brewers. Before we left we ordered a "crowler" to go. The canning rig is right on the bar. They fill a 32oz can from the tap of your choice, seal the can and give you a cold one to take home and maybe share with a friend. NOT ON THE COACH - PLEASE! Share one sip with a few friends and then head on down to Ookapow to experience the craft beer the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
