Wynwood Brewing

A visit to the Wynwood Arts District in Miami, Florida, is like being a character on a canvas just painted by Saldavor Dali, still dripping with wet paint and he's thinking of painting over you with more color. While we were still looking for a parking space we couldn't stop looking at all the graffiti art on every surface. Every building, pole, fence, dumpster, even the sidewalks were painted. We arrived at Wynwood Brewing Company, Miami's first craft brewery, which was also covered with art inside and outside. As your eyes escape looking a the floor to ceiling artwork your drawn to the bar where you notice the spray can tap handles pay tribute to the neighborhood. I was already feeling the buzz from sensory overload and I hadn't had my first beer. Our group ordered a flight and an array of offerings from the board. That first taste of a cold craft beer from a new location is always exciting. We were all satisfied with our choices as we rushed to offer tastes to each other. The early favorite was the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) gold medal winner, Pop's Porter. We don't normally start off with a porter but in this case the rich aroma of coffee, subtle aftertaste of coconut and smooth dry end was just what we needed.

As we sipped our beer, a brewery group had taken over the taproom. About 15 craft beer enthusiasts filled every seat and put the servers through their paces. The volume in the room amped up a bit and the taps got a workout as the enthusiastic group partied on. It was good to see a craft brewery get good support and from the looks on the faces of the crowd, their work was being enjoyed by all. We lingered around after the group left, ordered another round and we were rewarded with a conversation with the crew manning the taps. We heard about the barrel aged offerings and the daily tours of the brewery. With 16 offerings on tap we managed to sample and share glasses of about half including: Father Francisco, Belgian Golden Strong (9.3%ABV), Wynwood IPA (7.2% ABV, IBU 80), Alpha Mango Foxtrot, Mango Imperial Red Ale (8.0% ABV, IBU 25), Guava the Hut, Guava Berlinerweisse(), Wynwood Fox, Imperial Red Ale (8.0% ABV, IBU 25), Bohenien Raspberry, Raspberry Berlinerweisse (3.4% ABV, IBU 25). We picked up a six of Pop's Porter to go and plunged back out into the art gallery on 24th street.

If you are lucky enough to visit Wynwood, head west on 24th street, pass the space aliens mural, keep going after you pas the zombies and stop when you see the howling wolf grab a parking space and duck inside Wynwood Brewing to enjoy some drinkable art.
